Jane Austen wrote about the societal norms and the mindset of the general public through the medium of a family with five daughters, the Bennets. Elizabeth Bennet, the second of the daughters is the one who is different, and the protagonist of the novel, around whom the story evolves. The novel in short – Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen Pride and Prejudice is set primarily in the county of Hertfordshire, about 50 miles outside of London.
